The nurse has long, dark brown hair and is decently tall. He appears clean and is well educated. He’s pretty talkative and strikes an interesting conversation. 

 

Are you from around here? 

I was born in east Asia but I grew up around here. My mom visits the area occasionally but she doesn’t know about my condition. I also have a sister who lives nearby and she’s pretty well off, but we have family issues so I don’t see her. 

 

Have you worked any jobs before? 

I have a college degree and used to be a nurse, but after hurting my shoulders while working I had to get surgery. I still have a long scar from my shoulder all the way to my chest. I couldn’t work anymore because of my work injury. I applied for disability insurance and my lawyer was able to get me some money in reparation. I bought an old car with the money, but it broke down after a couple years. 

 

More recently, I worked at the Tesla manufacturing plant, but I had no place to stay and was really stressed and tired. After a while I had to quit. 

 

Do you have any hobbies? 

One time a volunteer brought me to the nursing home to help out. It made me feel useful again for once in a long time. I really loved volunteering there because I could talk with patients again without the stress of an actual job. 

 

Have you received help from any organizations? 

I usually go to Sunday Breakfasts at city hall for free breakfasts. I also got free glasses at St Vincent DePaul on Decoto road. They offer free glasses if you volunteer. I have bad eyesight and my glasses broke, and I didn’t have money to buy a new pair. 

 

I’ve contacted Abode services but they have a long wait list. Local shelters always give priorities to homeless with families, so it’s more difficult for single people to get a spot at the shelter. 

 

How do you cope with living on the streets?

I do like to drink, but I have no criminal records or DUI’s or anything like that.
