The home cook appears very clean and friendly. She loves to chat about cooking and keeps a positive attitude.
Have you ever stayed at a shelter before?
Abode, I’ve been there before but they kicked me out. Some girls lied that I threatened a counselor. They called me last month, but im in transition housing right now. I used to be able to afford my rent; that’s why I’ve been off and on homeless. Sometimes I stay in a motel. I miss cooking, the hot food.
What is your most dire necessity right now?
I’m blessed where I am now, but i just want to get housing. My goal is to have a house, little white picket fence. My rent was always more than my check. I know how to budget: pay rent, bills, money. Just housing rise too much. I got no criminal record. People will help you but you also got to help yourself. Even though I’m homeless, it doesn't mean I gotta look homeless. I keep my hygiene good. I got clothes, everything. Just need housing.
Do you have any family around here?
My son is also homeless. He’s 37, not working. He's got ADHD. I'm trying to take care of him too, and he helps me out. He’s taking medication and its hard for him to get a job. He constantly have to stay busing doing something. That’s my main point. I’m tired of being homeless. I’ve been dealing with my own issues too. September last year my uncle died and that same day I got into abode center. I’m trying to get my son on disability.
