#13: THE BAND PERFORMER

Standing tall with a clean appearance, the band performer greets others with enthusiasm. He is very respectful of others and loves being around others. Each week, he gives me regular updates on his job opportunities or friends. He speaks in muddled sentences but lights up at the chance to talk.

Are you from around here? 

Yeah, I grew up in the bay area- here in the Alameda and parts of the Peninsula. My mom and dad are around here. My other “parents” from my childhood singing and acting group are also nearby. When you grow up and spend so much time in an activity like theatre, you become really close like family. 

 

What are your hobbies?

I sung in middle and high school. I was in a band up until 2008. It was pop rock, R & B and a little rap. 

 

Have you ever received help from shelters or organizations nearby?

I was in a couple shelters. Some in Hayward. I’ve been with BACS for many years, I stay there during the day. 

 

Do you receive any support from the government?

I have SSDI: social security disability insurance. I’m looking for a cashier job, maybe at Safeway, here or Newark.
